Willie James Griffin Obituary

Willie James Griffin was born February 13, 1958, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Willie Erving and Marjorie Brewer Griffin. He departed this earthly life on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at Medical USC Health, Columbia, SC.

“Grip” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Richland and Lexington County, South Carolina. His first venture into the workforce was alongside his father in the fields of construction and brick masonry; he was always known for being skilled with his hands. He was employed with Nassau Corporation in his early years.

Willie was a humble, respectful, and caring son, brother, uncle, and friend. He was selfless when it came to helping others, and a man of few words with a loving heart. Willie possessed a love and talent for music; he played the bongo drum in the local band of Gaston (Happy Town), SC, known as "The Casanovas." He was not only a gifted musician, but also an artist with phenomenal skills specializing in drawing. A calm and laidback individual that became the life of the party with his smooth and carefree dancing.

Though he is no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew him. Willie will be missed but never forgotten

In addition to his parents, Willie was also preceded in death by his sisters, Bridgett Monique, Melissa Ann, Marlisa Rachelle Griffin; and brother, Frederick Lee Griffin.

He leaves to cherish his memories and love, his loving brothers, Vincent (Drenda) Griffin of Ludowici, GA, and Melvin (Patricia) Griffin of Columbia, SC; loving sisters, Juanita (Harvey) Issac of Marrietta, GA, Brenda Griffin, Cynthia Griffin and Ladevia (Curtis) Griffin all of Columbia, SC; caring uncle, Preston Brewer of Winnsboro, SC; loving aunts, Lillie Bell Harrison, Rebecca Hill, and Ella Mae Trapp, all of Winnsboro SC; and Gwendolyn Portee of Columbia, SC; twelve (12) nephews; three (3) nieces; along with a host of great nephews and nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
