William Leroy James, Sr. was born on December 6, 1934 in Sumter, South Carolina. He was born to the late Gilbert and Hattie James. God saw fit to call him home after a lengthy illness on March 25, 2024.
William, affectionately known as "Roy" received his education in Sumter Public School system. He served in the United States Army Roy began his government career in 1960 with the United States Postal Service and also the Naval Academy. He was also known as the *Cement King" for his side business as a Masonry Architect.
In 1955, Roy married the love of his life, Annie Bell Pressley. They would have been celebrating 69 years of marriage on April 16th.
Roy was a member of New Covenant Missionary Baptist Church. He attended faithfully until his health started to decline. He loved his Church family, and he also loved the Lord. He was also a member of a Masonic Lodge in Baltimore, Maryland.
William loved spending time with his family, fishing and playing cards. He will truly be missed by all that knew and truly loved him.
He was preceded in death by two sons; Eugene and Wilbert James.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Annie Bell James, two daughters; Loretta Howard (Marvin) and Bernadette Patterson (Harold), three sons; William James, Jr. (Lela), Terry Swinton (Vernita), Vernon James, (Rosalyn), one sister-in-law and two
brothers-in-law, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. A special granddaughter Tiffany Squirewell (Torrence) who caringly and unselfishly cared for him during his illness. A host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends all of whom will miss him dearly.
