Mr. Wilbur A. Hatcher, affectionately known as “Pipe,” son of the late Charlie Frank Hatcher and Ida Mae Nelson Hatcher, was born on September 3, 1966, in Clarendon County, South Carolina. On December 28, 2025, after battling numerous illnesses, he traded his labor for his reward.
At an early age, “Pipe” became a member of Antioch RMUE Church in Rimini, South Carolina, where he faithfully participated in the Sunbeam and Youth Choirs. “Pipe” was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. He enjoyed being a DJ and his DJ name was “Doctor Love.” He loved spending time with his family and then jokingly kicking everyone out of his house. To know him was truly to love him. He was employed with Carolina Furniture and Florence Concrete Products until he became disabled.
He married Theresa Hatcher Jenkins of Sumter, SC.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Joe Lee Nelson, Marcy Hatcher, Sr., and Rodney Lee Hatcher.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: three sons, Kwamae Johnson, Dariyan Hatcher, and Quamayne Hatcher, and one bonus son, Ansley Johnson, all of Sumter, SC; one sister, Deloris Hatcher of Sumter, SC; one sister- in-law, Latrisha Nelson of Thomasville, NC; six uncles Marion (Gloria) Hatcher of Columbia, SC; Marvin (Monica) Hatcher of York, VA; Reverend Amos (Bert) Hatcher of Summerton, SC; Micah Hatcher of Rimini, SC; James Junious of Thomasville, NC; and Sam Bennett of Tobyhanna, PA; three aunts, Elder Sarah (Isaiah) Bennett, Mary Jane Hatcher-Milton of Rimini SC and Marie Nelson of Pittsburgh, PA; one great-aunt, Eunice Jackson of Whitesville, NC; 19 grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; a special friend Linda Johnson of Rimini, SC; one special cousin, Shirley Wilson; one special brother, Otis McNeil; his best friend of 32 years, Samuel Crosby; his big brother, Muhammad Washington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
