Wilbert Dix, Sr. Obituary

Wilbert Dix, Sr., was born November 11, 1933, in Sumter, South Carolina. Wilbert was the beloved son of the late William Dicks and Elizabeth Murray. He departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Friday, May 13, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Wilbert entered the United States Army at an early age. He served in Germany, Korea, during the Vietnam Era and here on the homeland. During his service, he received the Bronze Star Medal as well as many other awards and commendations. He entered the US Army at Fort Jackson’s Tank Hill and retired from Tank Hill on August 1, 1973.

He began a career with the South Carolina Department of Corrections while furthering his education. He received an associate degree in Business Secretarial Science and Business Management from Midlands Technical College. After his second retirement from the Department of Corrections, he worked at Benedict College and Blue Cross Blue Shield before completely retiring to take on his favorite job – spending time with his family.

Mr. Dix was a member of the Greater St. Luke Baptist Church.

His favorite pastime was playing pool, bingo and watching and attending WWE, but most of all he loved spending time with family and friends.

Wilbert was also preceded in death by his son, Curtis Dix, Jr.; brothers, Willie Lee Dicks, Sr. and Earl Dicks, Sr.; and sisters, Harriet Haynesworth and Margaret Singleton.

Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories are his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy English Dix; his loving and caring children, Wilbert Dix, Jr., Pertina Gail Dix, Jannifer Dix and Dianna (Michael) Brown; loving sisters, Francis (Anthriest) Hill, Marie McDaniels, Mary Pringle and Victoria Mapp; grandchildren, William Dix, Ashley Dix, Renee Amo, Curtis Dix, Jr., Kerwin Dix, Timothy Braggs and Davon Wilson; ten (10) great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure, but rejoice that he is with the Lord.
