Wendell Frazier Sholar was born January 27, 1992, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the beloved son of Ricky and Benita McRant Sholar. Wendell made his transition from this earthly life on Friday, June 6, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Wendell was educated in the public schools of Richland County. At the age of seventeen, his family relocated to Forestville, Maryland where he attended Prince Georges County Public Schools, and graduated from Forestville Military Academy, in Forestville, Maryland. During his time at Forestville Military Academy he participated as a member of the football team and ROTC and became a lifelong friend of Faison Quigley.
At an early age he joined First Nazareth Baptist Church where he attended with his family.
Wendell will be remembered for his work ethic, dedication, and for his commitment to the community. After returning to South Carolina, he became employed as a Correctional Officer with the South Carolina Department of Corrections and Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. It was during this time that his commitment to the community was solidified. At the time of his departure he was employed with McDaniel’s Auto Center as a salesman and as a member of Duke’s 3D Security Team. Though he is no longer physically with us, he has left a legacy of love and devotion with all those who loved and knew him.
Wendell was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Betty Jean Taylor; maternal grandfather, Beverly McRant; paternal grandparents, Charles, and Wanda Sholar; and his uncle, Alexis McRant.
Those who are celebrating Wendell’s life are his loving mother, Benita Sholar; father, Ricky W. Sholar; sister, Bianca Sholar; nephew, King Joshua Wendell Sholar; a host of uncles, aunts, great uncles and great aunts; and many other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom are sadden by his untimely departure, but rejoice that he was a part of their lives.
