Trustee Walter E. Cunningham was born on July 13, 1939, the son of the late Daniel Cunningham and Minnie Robertson in McCormick, South Carolina. He transitioned from this earthly life on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, while at Hospice and Palliative Care of Piedmont in Greenwood, South Carolina.
Walter was educated in McCormick County Public Schools and was the owner of Cuningham Logging and with McCormick Recycling before his health began to decline.
He was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Joann Mackey Cunningham, with whom he shared many years together before she went home to be with the Lord.
Mr. Cunningham was a dedicated member of Lower Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be missed by all those who loved and knew him.
Mr. Cunningham was also preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Cunningham.
He is lovingly survived by his sons, Tracy (Dorothy) Cunningham and Stanley Cunningham, both of Plum Branch, SC; daughters, Yvonne Wheeler of Piedmont, SC; and Jennifer Yeldell of McCormick, SC; daughter-in-law, Jeannette M. Cunningham of Greenville, SC; granddaughters reared in the home, Latosha Cunningham and Jessica Moss; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-great-grandchildren; brother, Charlie (Doris) Cunningham of Plum Branch, SC; sisters, Zellena Terry of New Jersey, and Delorise McManus of Edgefield, SC; brother-in-law, James Mackey of McCormick, SC; sisters-in-law, Isabell Powell, Edna Landrum, Mammie Gilchrist, all of Boston, MA, and Dorothy Adams of McCormick, SC; dear friends, Eddie and Alean Gilchrist of Plum Branch, SC; and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure, but rejoice that he is now with the Lord.
