Walter “Reginald” Green was born on July 12, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Elijah Green Sr., and the late Eloise Shiver Green. He departed this life on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Prisma Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
After attending Richland County Public Schools, Walter entered the work force. He was a dedicated employee at Ashland Chemicals and Palmetto Metal Products for over 20 years. He was loved by many and known to the community as “Reggie Green.”
Reggie was outgoing and loved raising dogs and horses. He loved riding his horse in the country and feeling the wind in his face while riding his motorcycle. He had a huge smile that could melt the hearts of many. He never ever met a stranger and everyone who came to know him, adored him. He was the family comedian. There was never a moment when he didn’t make you “bust a gut.” He loved everyone and was a fierce protector of his family, especially his wife, “Rachel Jones Green.” They were married for 45 glorious years. Together they conquered many mountains and were victorious in them all.
Mr. Green was also preceded in death by his son, Ricardo Jones, Sr, of Peachtree Corners, GA; daughter, Jessica Green of Columbia, SC; brother, Robert L. Shiver, Newark, NJ; and sister Ella Mae Williams of Columbia, SC.
He is lovingly survived by his daughter-in-law, Darlene Jones of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; grandsons, Shaun (Shanae) Hewlett, Peachtree Corners, Georgia; and Corporal Ricardo Jones, Jr of Fort Meade, Maryland; granddaughter, Earlene Jones of Buford, Georgia; and a great granddaughter, Ariyah Hewlett of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; sisters, Sallie B. Spigner, Hillside, New Jersey; Betty J. Shiver, Debra Walker, of Columbia, South Carolina; Patricia (Lawrence) Thompson, Constance (Charles) Dingle, and Geraldine Alston. all of Hopkins, South Carolina, Claudia (Nathaniel) Douglas-Smith, Indianapolis, Indiana; brothers, Elijah (Margaret) Green, Jr, Joseph (Debra) Green of Columbia, South Carolina; Ernest (Willadean) Green of Hopkins, South Carolina; his sisters-in-law, Mary Shiver of Newark, New Jersey and Mary J. Boykin of Blythewood, South Carolina; Barbara Ann Walker, Harrison, Tennessee; Sallie (Ernest) Peterson, Sumter, South Carolina; Wyonia Burke, Branchville, South Carolina; Princess (Kenneth) Wise and Veronica Johnson of Columbia, South Carolina; and a special niece, Sabrina Williams of Columbia, South Carolina; he also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, family, extended family and friends whose lives he touched immeasurably.
