Vernon Lee Washington began his earthly life on April 24, 1961, in Calhoun County, South Carolina. Vernon also known as “Brick”, and was the son of Sue Washington Richardson and the late Jimmy Smith. God called him to his heavenly home on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Vernon attended public schools in Lexington County, School District II. In 1993, he married Leila George and this union was blessed with the birth of one child, Jaleesa Washington. Vernon was employed as a Brick Mason and a Roofer for over 40 years. Vernon possessed a kind, loving, and giving spirit. Even after having his leg amputated; he still had a strong will to live and to enjoy life. He learned to drive, and he still offered to help those in need. He would fall quite often, but he would get back up and he kept going! He was a big guy with a gentle soul. He was loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars in his spare time. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, and fishing buddy. Vernon was proceeded in death by his father, Jimmy Smith, step-father James Richardson, daughter Shanta Richardson, and sister Mamie (Spanky) Jones. Vernon is survived by five loving daughters, Kimberly Minson Myers, Desiree Johnson, Jaleesa Washington, Lawren Mayo, and Harmony Jones. Three sons, Antwan Ashley, Justin Washington, and Rahim Washington. Three sisters, Louella Washington, Angie Glover and Janice Haggood. Five aunts, Margaret Scipio, Ellen Giles, Maggie (Buck) Antrum, Ruby Summers and Martha Ann Smith. Three Uncles, Joenathan Smith, Angelo Smith, and George Summers; ten grand-children and three great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other loving relatives and friends; all who join the family in sharing grief caused by his departure.
