A gorgeous blossom bloomed with the birth of Verna Regina Wright on July 4, 1966. That beautiful flower departed this earth on December 19, 2025 at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC.
During her early years, Verna was affectionately known as “Gee”. She was reared in Cordova, SC with her mother Ethel and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Lee. In a home filled with love and affection, she learned and appreciated the practice of raising livestock, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Gee also enjoyed the close-knit community of family and friends. As a seventh grader Verna moved to Stamford Connecticut where she attended Dolan Middle School, Rippowam High School and graduated from Stamford High School in 1984. She continued her education at the Home by the Sea. Verna graduated in May 1989 from Hampton University.
Shortly after graduation Verna began her career at IBM in Stamford, CT. Verna supported the VP of Corporate Environmental Affairs and his staff, at the Somers location. She was the glue and the continuity that bound the department together and helped it succeed over many years.
As a young adult, Verna accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and united with Friendship Baptist Church. As an active member, she gave her time, talent and treasure in the ministry. During her years in Elgin, she supported and attended both Fort Clark Baptist Church and Edisto Fork United Methodist Church.
