Vera F. Lucas Obituary

Vera Frederick Lucas, affectionately known as “Teetsee”, was born October 13, 1937, in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  She was the daughter of the late George and Bessie Frederick.  She joined her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in Columbia, SC.

Vera was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County, however, due to circumstances, she was unable to complete her education at that time.  Upon moving to Columbia, she was determined to complete her education so that she could be an example to her children and others.  She did so, in Richland County Public Schools, and proudly graduated with her diploma from C. A. Johnson High School in 1979.

Vera was united in Holy Matrimony to Walker Jackson.  Their union of love was blessed with the births for 8 children, Ray, Vivian, Richard, Patricia, Jackie, Robert, Betty and Emma, before he went home to be with the Lord.  She was later wed to the late Calvin Lucas and their union was blessed with the birth of one child, Felecia, before he went home to be with the Lord.

Vera retired from Shakespeare Manufacturing Company after more than 30 years of dedicated service.

At an early age Mrs. Lucas joined the Gospel Temple Baptist Church in Neeses, SC, where she attended faithfully until her health declined. During her tenure there, she served in many capacities including: Bible Study Teacher, Choir Member, President of Missionary Circle #1 and as Church Mother. Mother Lucas then became a member of the Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.  During her tenure at Jehovah, she was honored as the Oldest Member of the Ushers Ministry.  Mrs. Lucas was also the President of the Golden Acres Community Choir.

Vera loved to help others, cook, sing, listening to Gospel music and working puzzles in her spare time.  She also enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Greenview Park as a part of the Greenview Park Senior Club.  Her life was dedicated to doing the will of God. . . She will be missed.

Lucas was also preceded in death by a son, Ray Jackson; a daughter, Vivian Johnson; her brothers, George Jr., Willie and Harold; and her sisters, Lillian and Murtis.

Those who will forever cherish her fond and precious memories are her caring sons, Richard (Debbie) of Blythewood, SC; Jackie and Robert (Verdette), both of Columbia, SC; loving daughters, Patricia (Hiran), Betty, Emma and Felecia, all of Columbia, SC; her only loving sister, Loretta Calhoun of Orangeburg, SC; thirteen (13) grandchildren; seventeen (17) great-grandchildren; her loving aunt, Blondell Prophet of Wilmington, DE; caring sisters-in-law, Margaret Jackson of Springfield, SC; Letha Mae Jackson of Salley, SC; and Ursula Frederick of Worcester, MA; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss her dearly, but rejoice that she is resting with the Lord.
