Vearma B. Abney

Vearma B. Abney was born March 3, 1950, in Columbia, SC, the beloved daughter of the late Pearline and Everette Dickerson Sr. She departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, in Columba, SC.

Vearma attended the public schools of Richland School District One and graduated from C. A. Johnson High School in 1970. She was a devoted Mental Health Specialist with the Department of Mental Health for 37 years.

She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She served as president on various auxiliaries and became the church Mother under the leadership of her Bishop Cathy Goins with Greater Faith Holiness Church.

Vearma was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, who enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her precious granddaughter. She also enjoyed gardening and taking care of her plants, as well as shopping.

In addition to her parents, Pearline and Everette, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Leon Abney; biological father, John Hopkins Sr.; sister, Stacy Dickerson; and her brother, John Hopkins Jr.

Those who will forever cherish everlasting and loving memories of Vearma are her two loving children, Christopher (Tiara) Jenkins, and Arka Abney (Tia)  Jackson;  her precious granddaughter, Jordyn Jenkins; loving sisters, Barbara Frett, Evelyn Gordon, Cathy Goins, Sharon Nelson, Jessie Stevenson, Sheila Hopkins, Michelle Hopkins, Janice Patterson Floyd and Lashawn Hopkins; caring brothers, Lesester Dickerson, Everette Dickerson Jr., Rodney (Nicole) Dickerson, Tyrone Hopkins, Jeffrey Hopkins, Anthony Hopkins, and Ron (LaLa) Hopkins; a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
