Tracy Newton, Sr. Obituary

Tracy Newton, Sr. was born July 30, 1968, in Blackville, South Carolina, the beloved son of Willie Edward Newton and the late Louise Hay Newton. He departed this earthly life on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

“Gappy” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Barnwell County where he graduated from Blackville-Hilda High School and excelled as a basketball player. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was the recipient of various  awards and commendations. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, he became a Master Barber.

Tracy was a die-hard fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Clemson Tiger Football teams. Though he is no longer physically with us, his loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all those who loved and knew him.

Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories are his wife, Wanda M. Newton; sons, Tracy Newton Jr. and Seoul Newton, both of Decatur, GA; grandsons, Mason and Major Newton of Decatur, GA; his father, Willie E. Newton of Blackville, SC; sister, Hope Newton Dunbar; step-children, Phallen Brooks, Kallium Smith, B. Smith, Cleveland Reed III, all of Columbia, SC; Justice Roundtree and Weldon Bankston, both of Decatur, GA; nephew, Wesley Dunbar of Barnwell, SC; nine step-grandchildren; nieces, Samone Newton, Channell Newton, both of Blackville, SC, Alexus Dunbar and Jaime Dunbar, both of Barnwell, SC; brothers-in-law, Zimmie Day and Ernest Perkins, both of Columbia, SC; his longtime best friends, Daryl Wallace of Williston, SC, Christopher Myzack of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sherri Smalls of Orlando, FL; a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and other loving relatives and dear friends all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure.
