Tia Latrese Brown Scott, was born April 18, 1991, in Columbus, Georgia, the beloved daughter of Antonio Anderson, Sr. and Cora Brown Anderson. She entered eternal rest on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Tia lived a life defined by strength, faith, creativity, and an unwavering love for her family and community.
Tia was educated in the public schools of Richland School District One and was a proud graduate of Lower Richland High School Class of 2009. She further pursued her passion for beauty and self-expression by attending Paul Mitchell the School of Cosmetology. She later dedicated her professional life to public service as a Medicaid Processor with the South Carolina Department of Health & Human Services, where she worked with compassion and diligence to support others.
On April 7, 2012, Tia was united in marriage to Derrick Lydell Scott. Their marriage was a testament to love, resilience, and unwavering partnership. She was a devoted wife and a loving mot her to her cherished children, Cariah and Trevor, who were the center of her world.
Tia was a faithful member of New Generation Church, under the leadership of her father, Pastor Tony Anderson, where she served as a praise and worship leader. After the retirement of Pastor Anderon, Tia continued her faith journey at The Brook Church. Her voice and spirit touched many hearts, and her worship reflected her deep and abiding faith in God. Even during life’s greatest challenges, her faith remained unshaken.
Tia Latrese Scott was a woman of remarkable strength, purpose, and undeniable light. In 2015, shortly after the birth of her son Trevor, she was diagnosed with endocarditis, a life-threatening heart infection that led to emergency open-heart surgery. This marked the beginning of a long and courageous medical journey. In 2017, she underwent another surgery to receive a pig valve, and by 2020, after its failure, she endured a triple bypass surgery with a mechanical valve placement. During that time, she also faced complications that resulted in compartment syndrome, requiring a fasciotomy.
Despite these immense trials, Tia never allowed her circumstances to define her. She continued to live boldly and love deeply. In February 2026, she faced her most critical battle when she went into cardiogenic shock and required advanced life support, including ECMO, LVAD, and RVAD. Her body endured kidney failure, ischemia, and numerous complications, yet she fought with extraordinary courage and grace until the very end.
Beyond her resilience, Tia was a vibrant and creative spirit. She had a deep passion for photography and cinematography, capturing meaningful moments and telling powerful stories. She expressed empowerment and pride through her T-shirt business and was a proud advocate for uplifting Black lives and strengthening her community. Tia also found joy in dancing, cooking, and bringing laughter into every room she entered. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Derrick L. Scott; her beloved children, Cariah L. Mickens and Trevor L. Scott; her loving parents, Rev. Antonio Anderson, Sr. and Cora Brown Anderson; her caring brother, Antonio Anderson, Jr.; her loving sister, Antoinette Mercedes (William, Sr.) Tresvant; niece and nephew, Zoe and William II Tresvant; her maternal grandparents, Rudolph and Victoria M. Brown; her uncles, Rudolph (Natalie) Brown, Jr., Charles (Shajuan) Brown and Michael Brown; her aunt, Theresa (Leroy) Tillman; and a host of other loving relatives, dear friends, and all whose lives she touched.
Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in knowing that Tia is now resting peacefully with the Lord. Her legacy of courage, creativity, faith, and love will live on in all who knew her.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
