Mr. Thomas Martin Burkett, Sr, was born July 13, 1968, in Irmo, South Carolina, the beloved son of Frank, Sr. and Betty Martin Burkett. He departed this life on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Prisma Health Baptist Parkridge, in Irmo, South Carolina.
Affectionately called “Buck” by family and friends, was educated in the public school of Lexington Five where he graduated from Irmo High School.
Thomas held several jobs in his lifetime including working beside his father in the family business as a concrete finisher. He was also employed with the landscaping service Sunset to Sunrise owned by Sanford and Forest Blocker, Highland Industries in Cheraw, SC, Purdue Chicken Plant in Rockingham, NC; as well as a few restaurants in the city, and he used his skills from the cement industry to work on many South Carolina bridge projects.
Thomas attended Greater St. James FBH Church where he sang on the choir and could be counted on to fulfil any project or task needed.
Thomas was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, son , brother, uncle, and friend who will be remembered for being an excellent concrete finisher and landscaper, having a heart for helping others and a good heart.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ivy, and Brenda C. Burkett.
Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of Thomas are his three loving sons, Thomas M. Burkett, Jr. of Columbia, South Carolina, Rafael (Ebeny) Burkett of Charleston, South Carolina, and Joshua O. Burkett of California; three caring grandchildren, Ezra Burkett, Gabriel & Madisyn Meyers; his loving parents, Frank Sr. and Betty Burkett; one caring brother, Frank (Vanessa) Burkett, Jr. of Irmo, South Carolina; five loving sisters, Sharron (Henry) Edwards of Phoenix City, Alabama, Miriam Burkett, Veronica (Edward) Mayers, Marilyn Burkett and Christle (Lewis) Jacob, all of Irmo, South Carolina; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure.
