Thelma Jones Obituary

Thelma Elizabeth Jones passed away peacefully at the age of 79 on July 8, 2020 at PRISMA Health Baptist Hospital.  She was born in Columbia, South Carolina on October 6, 1940 to the beloved parents, Lee W. Jennings, Sr. and Mary Neal Bethel Jennings who both preceded her in death.

Thelma attended the public schools of Richland County.  Her work career included working as a Chamber Maid at the Howard Johnson Hotel. She took her work seriously and was one of the best “Chamber Maids” in Columbia, South Carolina.

Thelma was a Christian Believer and had long ago accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as her personal savior. She was a Godly woman who loved the lord and read her bible daily.  She knew the power of prayer and was known to go into her prayer room.  She was a faithful servant at Zion Baptist Church where she will be remembered for her acts of kindness and love.

In 1956, Thelma and Oliver were united in holy matrimony.  Thelma was 16 and Oliver was 19.   This union of 64 years was blessed with love, happiness, devotion and six children.

Thelma loved her family, especially her grands, and enjoyed spending time with them.  She was known to have a clean, warm and inviting home.  She ensured that her family felt at home and loved whenever they visited.  She also loved to cook and it brought her joy to cook for her family and friends. To know her was to love her as she had a kind, caring and loving personality.  She could always be counted on to help when needed.  Thelma had hobbies but one of her favorite pastimes was scratch-offs.  She enjoyed the thrill of the game play.

At the heavenly gates to welcome her home are her parents, Lee W. Jennings, Sr. and Mary Neal Bethel Jennings; children, Jacqueline Jones and Leroy Jones; brothers, Lee W. Jennings, Jr., Charles Jennings, Norman Pagan and Theodore Pagan.

Tender loving memories will forever be cherished by her husband Oliver Jones; children, Olivia (Wayne) Fountain, Deborah (Chris) Forbes, Terry (Audrey) Jones and Lucius Jones; grandchildren, Revilo Jones, Sr., TeeShaw Harrison, Tayla Jones, Ashante Jones, Tyrell Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Tanaja Jones, Kayla Bolton, Daniel Hudson and Barain Porter; sister, Clifateen J. Fields; brother, Bobby Jennings; eleven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.   We are forever grateful to have had this time with her and her passing will forever leave a void in the hearts of all who loved and knew her.
