Stafford Barber Obituary

Stafford "Stanley Bug" Barber Sr., was born June 18, 1964, in Columbia, SC, the son of the late Mary Lucille Barber and James Davis Taylor. The youngest of his siblings, Safford departed his earthly life peacefully and gained his wings on Monday, April 28, 2025, at PRISMA Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.

“Stanley Bug" or "Bug" as he was affectionately called by family and friends, attended the public schools of Richand County and was a 1984 graduate of Lower Richland High School in Hopkins, SC. He was employed at the Marvin Company from which he retired after twenty-four years of service. Shortly after retiring, he started working at The Farm and also for Ernest Washington Masonry.

Stanley Bug was united in holy matrimony on February 2, 1990, to Brenda Sumter and to their union, five children were born.

He was a dedicated member of Living Waters Christian Outreach Center in Columbia, SC, since 1998.

Stafford loved to work, cook, laugh, and talk junk. Most importantly he loved helping his family and friends. His favorite saying was "I love you all the same" and "Moma raised us all as one.”

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary L. Barber; father, James Davis Taylor; brother. Randolph Barber; and niece, Cora “Ti Ti” Geter.

Those left to cherish his fond and precious memories are his loving wife, Brenda Sumter Barber of Hopkins, SC; daughters, Ambrina Barber, Brittany (Darius) FIoyd, and Mary Barber; sons, Stafford Barber, Jr., and Micheal Barber, all of Hopkins, SC; granddaughter, Brooklynn Floyd; grandsons, Jamari Barber McCloud, Darius Floyd Jr., Kyrie Love Barber, Braxton and Carsyn Barber; a host of loving sisters and brothers; brothers and sisters-in-law; uncle, Wesley (Ruth) Davis of Hopkins, SC; aunts, Martha Smith, Annie B. Richardson, Elizabeth Grooms, Emma L. Robinson, and Louvenia Hopkins, all of Hopkins, SC; and a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
