Solomon Shawn Thompson, Sr., was born January 27, 1967, in Manhattan, New York, a blessing to the late William and Wilma Kennedy Thompson. After a brief illness, he quietly entered eternal rest on Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Florence, South Carolina.
Sal, as he was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Richland School District One and was a graduate of A. C. Flora High School, in the Class of 1986. He enjoyed working in construction and learning various skills.
He joined Ridgewood Baptist Church at an early age.
Sal was a dedicated Pittsburg Steelers fan, and the New York Yankees were his favorite baseball team. Sal was also a Boy Scout who enjoyed the outdoors. Sal loved being in the company of elderly people because he loved assisting them. He also loved politics and was an awesome chess player. His laugh was contagious, affectionate, and loving; he was a charmer of people. Though he is no longer physically with us, the love that he shared with his family and friends will forever live in the hearts of all those who loved and knew him; he will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Thelma Green; grandparents, Willie and Ella Kennedy; uncle, Charles Kennedy; great-grandmother, Earlene Knightner Jackson; son, Eric Thompson; sister, Cassandra A. Thompson; and nephew, Rylan J. Drake.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories are his loving six children, Quinton X. Marshall, Solomon S. Thompson, Jr., Solomon Arae, Farrah Butler, Kaylisa Hopkins, and Kennedy Thompson; one granddaughter, Ja’Niyuah Marshall; sisters, Brenda M. Thompson-Black, Sophia N. (Lee) Thompson-Gamble; and Deborah M. Thompson. Solomon was also blessed with nine loving nephews and nieces; eight great-nephews and nieces; and two great-great nephews and nieces; his memory will be their blessing; along with a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
