Shirley Ann Kennedy Obituary

Shirley Ann Kennedy was born August 3, 1959, in Sumter County, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Anthony Kennedy Sr. and Ella Mae McDaniel. She departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 3, 2025.

Shirley affectionately called “Ankey,” by family and friends, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She was employed with and retired from The University of South Carolina after more than twenty-five (25) years of dedicated service.

Shirley was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to cook and take care of her family. Family and friends were especially important to her, and she would let them know how she felt.

Ms. Kennedy was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church where she attended faithfully and regularly until her health declined. Though she is no longer physically with us, her loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all those who loved and knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Earnest, Thomas, Isaac, and Anthony (Jr.) Kennedy; three sisters, Janie B. Kennedy, Annie R. Prince, and Ruther Mae Kennedy; and a nephew, Henry Kennedy.

Those cherishing fond and precious memories of Shirley are her two loving daughters, Tanisha (Vernoris) Kennedy-Dixon and Keshia L. Moses, both of Columbia, SC; a special nephew who was like her son, Patrick Kennedy of Columbia, SC; sisters, Carolyn Kennedy (Darryl) Williams of Columbia, SC, and Betty Ann Wilson of Lynchburg, SC; seven (7)  grandchildren, Jasmine S. Kennedy, Maurice Gary, Jr., Teirra Dixon, Armani Dixon, Brionna Dixon, Ki’Mya L. Moses and London N. Moses;  three (3) great-grandchildren; her significant other of 29 years whom she loved and cherished dearly, Marion Williams; best friends, Roberta Taylor, Kenyatta Green, Allison Shelton and Dorothy McCoy; special nieces, Cheryl Kennedy, Yolanda Nesmith, Wanda Prince Tucker, Annie Mae Earle and Karen Kennedy; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice that she is now with the Lord.
