Shirley Mitchell

August 14, 1937 ~ April 27, 2022 (age 84)

Obituary

Shirley Wilkes Mitchell was born on August 14, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Willie and Viola Wilkes of Chester, South Carolina.  She departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, in Lexington, South Carolina.

Shirley grew up in New York along with three siblings, all of whom have preceded her in death.   She was married in Brooklyn, New York to Willie Morris Mitchell, who also preceded her in death.  She was a loving mother, grandmother and most importantly, a child of God who was a believer and follower of Christ.

Shirley was very generous and a dedicated member of the Zoey Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. During her tenure at Zoey Baptist, she would help prepare and cook meals for the homeless every week and she loved to sing and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to others.

Shirley also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and teaching them the gospel.  While residing in New York, she would frequent Atlantic City to walk the boardwalks and visit the beach with family and friends.

Shirley had one son, Eugene Otto Wilson, Jr., who loved and cared about her very much.  He is joining her in heaven to reign with the Lord.

Shirley is survived by her loving daughter-in-law, Barbara Porter Wilson; three (3) loving grandsons, Eugene Otto Wilson, Jr., Antoine Woodrow Wilson, and Travis Jerome Wilson; six (6) precious grandchildren,  Justin Wilson, Antoine Wilson, Jr., Katherine Wilson, Ashlynn Wilson, Andrew Wilson, and Aria Wilson; a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will hold a special place in their hearts, for she was truly left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew her.
