Sherma D. Hills was born April 15, 1944, in Columbia, South Carolina, the daughter of the late Salley Martin and raised by the late Reverend John Martin. She went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 22, 2205, at 7:05 am in Columbia, South Carolina.
Sherma was educated in the public schools of Richland County where she attended Booker T. Washington High School. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Robert Hills, Sr., after which the couple moved to Newark, New Jersey, where they lived for many years, and to their union three children were born.
While residing in New Jersey, Sherma was employed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield from which she retired after many years of dedicated service. Upon relocating back to South Carolina, she was employed with United Postal Service (UPS) from which she retired again in 2009.
Mrs. Hills loved the Lord and rededicated her life to Christ and joined Haskell Heights First Baptist Church. During her tenure she worked faithfully as a member of the Usher Board, Jubilee Choir, while also working in the clothing ministry and in the Seniors Ministry until her health declined.
Sherma enjoyed being active in the community. As a long-time resident of the Eau Claire Community, Sherma was awarded the Eau Claire Community Council Award in 2019, an honor that she held in high regard. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Stars.
During her spare time Sherma enjoyed cooking and baking Carrot Cake for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who will be missed by all those who loved and knew her.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memoires are her loving children, Robert (Jeanette ) Hills, Dennis (Alleane) Hills and Tara Hills, all of Columbia, SC; ten grandchildren, Tyreisha Outing of Greenville, SC, Antwon K. Outing, Atlanta, GA, Shaquita Lee, Robert Hills, III, Shatoria L. Hills, Denzel (Kamyiah) Hills, and Demetre (Raven) Hills, all of Columbia, SC, Kinyata Freeman Charlotte, NC, Omar D. Hill Atlanta, GA, and Dashaun (Tatiana) Hills St. John, FL; twenty-seven (27) great-grandchildren; her close friend connection in New Jersey and a host of other loving relatives, church family and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
