Sheila Elaine Owens

Sheila Elaine Ball Owens was born March 3, 1961, in Columbia, SC, the beloved and youngest child born to the late Calvin J. and Dorothy May Pearson Ball. She peacefully passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, after a brave battle with cancer.

Sheila was educated in the public schools of Richland School District One where she attended C. A. Johnson and Columbia High Schools. She worked as a childcare provider for many families in the Columbia area for more than twenty years.

On May 11, 2009, Sheila was united in Holy Matrimony to Thomas Owens, a union of love that changed both their lives, and blended a family that shared a love that was a blessing.

Though she is no longer physically with us, Sheila will be remembered for her deep love of family, her compassion for others, her selfless spirit, and her loving heart that was a blessing to many children.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Y. Pearson; and brothers, Truman, Daryl, and Larry Ball.

Those who will forever cherish fond and precious memories of Sheila are her loving and devoted husband, Thomas Owens; loving daughters in love, LaToya (Terrell) Gardner, Melissa Reese, and Shatara Hair, all of Columbia, SC; son-in-love, Thomas (Kenyatta) Davis, of Temple, TX; two precious granddaughters; four adoring grandsons; her loving sisters, Cynthia Jacobs, Barbara Ball, Jacqueline (Alex) Dennis, and Dulmen Ball, all of Columbia, SC; and Regina Pinckney of Marietta, GA; and caring brother, Kenneth (Mary) Ball, Sr. of Columbia, SC; a host of loving nephews, nieces; and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
