Shanae N. Craven Obituary

Shanae Craven was born to Risa Mitchell and Ernest Craven on September 18, 1981, in Fontana, CA.  She was the eldest child to both of her parents and Carol Oliver’s first grandchild.

Not only was Shanae loved by her immediate family but her god-parents, Billie and Leslie Hopkins, loved her dearly.  As a toddler, she spent a lot of time with them, and they loved every minute they were able to spend with her.

Shanae began elementary school at Ingram Elementary School where she was eager to join the Drill Team.  During this time, her team participated in various community events which included the Black History Parade held on the West Side of San Bernardino during Black History month.  Shanae loved to cook and would always be in the kitchen asking questions about what was being cooked and how to cook it.  She spent her adolescent years playing video games and performing dance routines with her Aunt Genius and sister, Jamisha.  She also loved spending time with her youngest brother, CJ.

As a teenager, she and her family moved to South Carolina where Shanae attended Spring Valley High School from 1998-2000.  Shanae decided to go to Job Corps in Atlanta, GA to further her education.  Shanae had a passion for nursing.  While in Job Corps, she received her CNA, Certified Nursing Assistant license.  After graduating from Lovelace Training Center, Shanae was employed at Magnolia Manor in Columbia, SC.  Later on in life, Shanae decided to further her education.  She enrolled in Virginia College where she obtained a Medical Assistant Certification.

At the age of 20, Shanae was diagnosed with kidney failure.  She never allowed the diagnosis to keep her spirits down.  Shanae was a real people person.  She LOVED laughing, talking, and interacting with her family, friends, or anyone she encountered.  She loved to read books written by Sylvia Browne.  She was intrigued by the mysteries she read.

No matter what challenges Shanae had to face, she always kept a positive attitude.  For 21 years, Shanae fought diligently against her health condition.  She never allowed her health condition to keep her away from being involved with her nieces and nephews’ social activities.  She ALWAYS demonstrated her love and support whenever needed.

Shanae was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Craven; grandmother, Carol Oliver; god-parents, Billie and Leslie Hopkins; uncle, Kenneth Oliver and aunt, Genius Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory, Risa Bass (mother); Jerome Bass (step-father); Jamisha Cherry (sister); Charles Davis, Jr. (brother); Tiffany Jenkins (sister-in-law); Rena Jones (aunt); Edward Oliver, Renisa Stanfield and Terri Parrish (cousins) Cionna Brown, Jasmine Brown and Caylee Davis (nieces); Cesar Brown (nephew) and Tavayous Robinson (fiance’) along with a host of friends and family that loved her dearly.
