Sara Louise Cooper was born on November 29, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Oscar Hamilton Cooper, Sr. and the late Mary Elizabeth Outen Cooper. She peacefully departed this life on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Sara attended the public schools of Richland County, graduating from Eau Claire High School, Class of 1973. For most of her life, she was self-employed, providing in-home daycare services. Sara poured her heart into caring for children and supporting the families she served. Her home was a place of warmth and laughter, and she treated every child as if they were her own. The impact of her love and nurturing spirit will live on in the many lives she touched.
At an early age, Sara accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, a decision that guided her life and anchored her faith. She was a devoted member of Greenview First Baptist Church, where she found great joy in serving in the choir, faithfully lifting her voice in praise.
In addition to her parents, Sara was also preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Oscar H. Cooper Jr. and Larry E. Rawlinson.
Sara Louise Cooper leaves to cherish her memories two sisters, Phillis Cooper and Constance (Curtis) Washington; a brother, Rev. Nicholas B. Cooper; three nieces, Nina (Thomas) Scott, Marjorie (Earl) Whitaker, and Kayla (Taylor) Ross; two nephews, Curtis (Mara) Washington, III, and Chaze Cooper; five great nieces, Nadia Scott, Aubree Washington, Averie Washington, Micky Ross, Nina Ross; four great nephews, Andrew Scott, Keegan Washington, Zeke Whitaker, Eddie Ross; stepmother, Sheila Cooper; three aunts, Helen Harvey, Louise Dorsey, and Doris Cooper; and a host of loving cousins, family friends, and very special adopted children.
Above all, Sara deeply loved her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt whose presence brought comfort, laughter, and unwavering love. Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that Sara is now resting in the presence of the Lord, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her. Her legacy of faith, love, and selfless care will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
