Mr. Rufus L. Dunlap was born on February 3, 1959, in Richland County, South Carolina to the late Harry and Mary Lee Fields Dunlap. He answered God’s call and departed this world on Friday, February 28, 2025, following a brief illness.
Rufus was the youngest of five children, four of which were girls. He always looked up to his sisters and never hesitated to remind them that he was the baby boy and their only brother; therefore, he must be taken care of (spoiled actually). He was the type of man who lived his life on his own terms, and he met death on his own terms.
He was educated in the public schools of Lower Richland County and entered the workforce as a painter after graduating high school.
Though he is no longer physically with us, his legacy of love will forever live in our hearts.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Katie Williams, and Bertha Nunn; one brother, John Hopkins; one niece, Rhonda Kelly, and a very dear friend whom he and his sisters counted as a brother, Michael Roberts.
Loved ones left to cherish his precious memories are his loving wife, Wanda Dunlap of Columbia, SC; three sisters, Evangelist Ella Sims and Deaconess Shirley Brown both of Columbia, SC, and Beverly Harris of Memphis, TN; his mother in law, Gloria F. Simpson; one sister-in-law, Michelle (Les) Priester; six brothers-in-law, Charles Nunn of Memphis, TN, Angelo Ricky (Jackie) Boyd, Donald Vincent (Sharon) Boyd, Kevin E. (Aretha) Boyd, Alton E. (Kimberly) Simpson, and Vataha Simpson; a very special auntie, Carolina Bryce of Columbia SC; a special friend of many…many years, Marion Latimer; a close cousin-in-law, Larry Mayo, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and many other family members and dear friends who loved him and will miss him dearly.
