Mr. Ruffer Spell was born February 10, 1952, in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of the late Andrew, Sr. and Mary Henry Spell. On Friday, April 25, 2025, at Lexington Community Hospice House – Agape Care in Lexington, South Carolina, God in His infinite wisdom called Ruffer to rest from his journey here on earth.
Affectionately known as “Bay Bay,” by family and friends, Ruffer was educated in the public schools of Richland County where he graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He was employed with Sox & Freeman Tree Expert Company for many years where he worked as an arborist.
Ruffer was baptized in Columbia, South Carolina and became a member of Bible Way Church of Atlas Road.
Bay Bay was a very friendly and caring person to everyone he met. Though he is no longer physically with us, his loving and kind spirit will forever live in the hearts and lives of all those who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew Jr., and James Spell; and three sisters, Ellen Spell, Lovinia Spell and Dora Spell Washington.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories are his son, Elijah Spell of Youngstown, OH; daughter, Trenena Spell-Scarlett of Huntington Station, NY; stepson, Tony Diamond of West Columbia, SC; stepdaughter, Tondra Quertbum of Mansfield, OH; six grandchildren; devoted brothers, Bruce Spell and Wallace Spell, both of Columbia, SC; loving and caring sisters, Mary (Roosevelt) Diamond, Elaine (Cameron) Hammond, Annette (Calvin) Blue, all of Columbia, SC, and Carrie (Joseph) Sulton of Cayce, SC; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him.
