Mrs. Rosetta B. Burton of Columbia, SC, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born in Columbia, SC, on August 3, 1946, to the late Arthur and Jennette Burkett and Johnny Jones.
Rosetta was educated in the public schools of Richland County and graduated from Richlex High School, Class of 1964. She was employed as a Master Chef at Holiday Inn, where she retired. Later in life, she re-entered the workforce and worked at Lutheran Homes.
During the early ’60s, she married her Boaz, Joseph Burton. Three adorable children were born into this union
GiGi as she was affectionately called, accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful, lifetime member and servant of St. Paul AME Church of Irmo, SC until her health declined. She was a member of the Mass Choir, the Women's Missionary and Stewardess. She also participated on the Culinary Ministry. In 2019, she was presented by the Columbia District Lay Organization as an Unsung Hero of St. Paul AME Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Burton; her parents, Jennette Burkett Arthur Burkett and Johnny Jones; her son, Joseph McKiver Burton; her two sisters and one brother.
Those left to cherish her memory forever are her daughter, Ellen Burkett; son, Tillman (Angela) Burton; grandchildren, Chynna Caughman, Tillman (Quanessa) Burton, Candace (Maurice) Burkett, Tityana (Deven) Bolden, Kelvin Horne, and Keith Horne; one great-grandson of the home, Ivoreigh Briggs; nineteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bouknight, Mary Lee (Norman) Venyah and March (Robert) Vanlue; brothers, Thomas (Sophia) Burkett, Eddie (Roberta) Goodwin, William (Annette) Goodwin, and Mark (Jacquelyn) Goodwin; uncles, James (Roberta) Eskew and John (Rev. Elaine) Eskew; nephew, Morris (Clarie) Burkett, of the family home; best friend, Shirley Burton and a host of sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
Rosetta will always be remembered for her beautiful spirit,
consistent acts of kindness and tireless expressions of love
for her family and friends.
