Mr. Roosevelt Jackson, affectionately known as Pop Jackson, was born October 24, 1945 in Gadsden, SC. He was born to the late Henry Jackson and the late Janie Jackson Brannon. Roosevelt departed this life on January 28, 2023 with his family by his side in Columbia, SC.
Roosevelt was a 1965 graduate of Hopkins High School. He was very hardworking and for many years he worked at Textile Fabric Company and Pope Chemical while in New Jersey. Later he worked and retired from the South Carolina State Hospital.
Roosevelt accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church of Gadsden, SC many years before he moved to Paterson, NJ, where he became a member of Bethel AME Church of Passaic, NJ. While he served at Bethel AME, he sang faithfully on the church choir. After his return to SC in 1985, he returned back to his church family at St. Mark Baptist Church until he became ill. He also sang with his family gospel group, The Singing Jubilees of Hopkins, SC.
To know Roosevelt, is to know he enjoyed fishing, cooking, singing gospel, and gardening. He also enjoyed spending time with his neighbors as well as a friendly game of spades. Roosevelt was not a part of a missionary group but he did missionary work. He did just what the scripture instructs. He cared for orphans and the widows and he did it with passion.
