Ronnie Lee Mitchell was born on September 20, 1960, in Cayce, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Deacon Freddie Lee Mitchell, Sr. and Mother Addie Jean Mitchell. He passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, March 2, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and many years of devotion to his loving wife, stepchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Ronnie attended the public schools of Lexington County, graduating from Brookland-Cayce High School in 1979. While in high school, he was a starting guard on the varsity basketball team for all four years and earned a scholarship to play basketball in college. After completing his education, he began a long and honorable career in public service. Ronnie faithfully served with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health for 15 years and later with the South Carolina Department of Corrections for 27 years. Throughout his career, he was known for his dedication, reliability, and commitment to his work.
Ronnie valued family and took great pride in the relationships he built with those closest to him. His presence brought strength, guidance, and laughter to family gatherings and to the many friends whose lives he touched.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Mitchell; grandmothers, Ellen Mitchell and Lillie Mae Corley; aunts, Pamela Corley and Pearl Geiger; and his nieces and nephews, Cassandra Jean Mitchell, Freddie Lee Mitchell V, Christopher Mitchell, and Jemonne Newkirk.
Ronnie leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Carolyn Mitchell; stepchildren, Anthony, Kavonna, Mario, Kendre, and Eric; and seven step-grandchildren; siblings, Freddie Lee (Rebecca) Mitchell, Jr., Stella Ann Rogers, Larry Karl (Pam) Mitchell, and Michael Juan (Rochelle) Mitchell; great-aunts, Annie Belle Ware and Roberta Freeman; cousins, Dolores Geiger and Nathaniel Daise; and a host of nieces and nephews including, Erica Mitchell Jones, Freddie Mitchell IV, Jerome Mitchell, Christina Mitchell Hua, Cory Cooper, Robert Ivy III, Kenneth Mitchell Jr., Kenecia Mitchell Payne, Robert Maxwell, Patrice Rogers, Santella Rogers, Larry Karl Mitchell Jr., Lawrence Mitchell, Lorenzo Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, LaAja Mitchell Tolliver, Travon Mitchell, Minetha Mitchell Harp, Ben Smith, and Jamel Smith; along with many extended relatives and dear friends who will forever treasure his memory.
Ronnie’s life reflected dedication, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
