Ronald Dwayne Johnson was born June 20, 1965, in Columbia, South Carolina, the son of the late John W. and Mary Hart Mayo. He entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Ronald received his formal education in the public schools of Richland County, graduating from W. J. Keenan High School where he was given the nickname "Dogg Pound". After High School he joined the US Army training at Fort Jackson Army Base in 1986. On April 15, 1987, he married the love of his life Sheila Denise Fraizer.
Ronald received an Associate Degree in General Science from Central Texas College. He also attended Logistic Management College while enlisted in the US Army. During his tenure in the military, he achieved the rank of SGT First Class and was a member of Bravo Company 58th Transportation Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade, serving our country honorably for fourteen (14) years, having fought in the African War, Saudia Arabia (two tours), and North Korea. He also fought in several “Top Secret” Missions, and he was a Veteran of Operation Desert Strom. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 2002, he became an entrepreneur in the trucking business. He was the owner of RDJ Enterprise LLC and Great Wide Logistics. Ronald drove trucks for forty years, a job that he loved.
Ronald was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather (PaPa) who loved his family and was given the name “ToeJo.” During his spare time, he enjoyed working on cars, watching WWE, YouTube, and playing basketball as well as other sports. He especially enjoyed playing with his son and daughter.
Ronald leaves to cherish his fond and precious memories his loving and devoted wife, Sheila D. Johnson; his only son, Ronald D. (Keosha) Johnson, Jr. of Columbia, SC; and only daughter, Montaysha S. Paylor of Sumter, SC; grandchildren, Roman Ron Dale and Noureyah Riley Johnson, Kalani Armani and King Amari Mendieta; brothers, James L., Richard, and Kenneth McCrorey; sister, Dorothy McCrorey; forty nephews; thirty-five nieces; uncle, Larry (Wanda) Hart; aunts, Patricia (Kevin) Nicholes of Hopkins, SC, Barbara Ruff of Columbia, SC, and Bessie (Dwarn) Lee of Havre de Grace, MD; father-in-law, Jimmy Frazier; mother-in-law, Betty Frazier; two brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; special (sister) cousins, Wanda Penny and Stephanie Patterson, both of Columbia, SC; dear friend, LaQuetta Paylor; and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.
