Reverend Bennie Colclough a native of Sumter, South Carolina, was born March 27, 1952, the beloved son of the late Henry and Pearl Davis-Colclough. He departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
A son of the state of South Carolina, he attended the public schools of Sumter County and then earned undergraduate degrees from Santa Ana Junior College, California State University Long Beach, and a graduate degree from Yale University Divinity School. Reverend Colclough completed additional studies in Clinical Pastoral Education through the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP) at Walden Correctional Institution.
He proudly served six years in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. A federal and state retiree, he served both the United States Postal Service for 30 years, and the South Carolina Department of Corrections for 8 years.
Reverend Colclough’s community engagement included the following organizations, the Columbia East Rotary Club (Past Centennial President), More Light Lodge #468 Prince Hall (Past Master), C.C. Johnson Consistory #136 Columbia and the United Supreme Council 33rd Degree. The Disabled Americans Veterans and Auxiliary 92nd Buffalo #20, the NAACP as a Silver Life member, the Finlay House as a Board Member, and the Dorn V.A. Hospital as a transportation staff member.
Licensed to preach in 1979, Reverend Colclough began his ministry at Grant A.M.E. Church in Long Beach, California. In Connecticut Reverend Colclough also served the faithful people of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Bridgeport, Bethel A.M.E. Church in New Haven, and St. James A.M.E. Church in Danbury. In South Carolina he also served the faithful people of Providence A.M.E. Church and Trinity A.M.E. Church in Manning and Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church in Kingstree. His 40 years of pastoral service brought him to Providence Christian Church in Manning, South Carolina in 2008, where he pastored until his transition.
Reverend Colclough is lovingly survived by his wife of fifty-one (51) years, Rosemary A. Colclough; his loving children, Dr. Monique N. Colclough, and Brian Q. Colclough (Dana, Jackson & Myles); and his caring siblings, James Colclough, Reverend Henry Colclough, Hattie Mae Evans; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews and other relatives, church family and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him, but rejoice that he is resting with the Lord.
