Renee Yvette Prater, the eldest of six children was born on December 8, 1958 to the late Wylie and Sandra Ellis (Vaughn) in Pittsburgh, PA. She departed this life in her home on Saturday, January 2, 2021 after battling an illness of long duration.
Renee was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System.
In 1973 Renee married Fred Prater at the young age of 15 and their union lasted 40 years. Within this union four children were born.
The family migrated to South Carolina where Renee resided for over 30 years. Renee loved to spend time crocheting. She also loved to care for others as she was a foster parent and opened her home for foster children. She always expressed her love in the best way she could with anyone around her. She was stern but loving.
She retired from Richland Memorial Hospital (now known as Prisma Health Richland) in 2018.
Renee is survived by her four children, Fred Prater, Jr, Lynn (Ethel) Prater, Rashad Prater and Tamika Prater; eight grandchildren of South Carolina ; five siblings, Cornell (Christine) Ellis, Tyrone (Verna) Ellis, Norman Ellis, Wylie (Sharon) Ellis III and Venetta Ellis; four half siblings, Lloyd Means, Janice Means, Margorie David and Devon Ellis; two aunts, Deborah Jenkins and Denise Moore; special friend, Jay Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends whom will miss her dearly.
