Renee Roberta Fair Obituary

Renee Roberta Fair was born December 5, 1951, the beloved daughter of the late Eloise Fair and the late Robert Outen. Renee departed this life on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.

Renee was educated in the public schools of Richland County and graduated with honors from Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1970, where she was listed as Who’s Who Among Americans Teenagers, and a member of the Marching Band.  After high school Renee attended and graduated with honors in Math and Physics from Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama, and in 1972 pledged the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. Upon graduating from Talladega, she was recruited in 1974 to study at the Junior Meteorological Program at The Pennsylvania State University, State College in Pennsylvania.

After completion of the program in 1975, she began her meteorology career in Washington, DC, later moving to Boston where she quickly earned a reputation for insightful forecasts, engaging storytelling, and a genuine connection with viewers and readers alike. Whether predicting storm fronts, sunny weekends, or rare weather phenomena, Renee combined science, experience, and intuition to keep countless people informed and safe. As her career continued to evolve, she was appointed as head meteorologist for the U.S. National Weather Service in N. Little Rock, Arkansas from 1990-2015, where she received many accolades for her exceptional work ethic and service, culminating a 42-year career in meteorology.

Upon relocating to South Carolina, Renee united with Second Nazareth Baptist Church where she served as the Women’s Day Sub-Committee, Co-Chair for ads and patrons, and a member of the Women’s and Missions Ministries. She was a staunch supporter of the Edgewood Foundation where she yearly played Ms. Santa Claus alongside her dear Adolph as Santa for the children. Renee created her own ministry affectionately called “Follow the Pastor.” If the bus moved to go to a preaching engagement, she would always prepare meals for everyone on the bus.

Renee was a fifty plus year Soror and member of the Columbia SC Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. where she served on the Delta Dear Committee.

In addition to her parents, Renee was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, William and Cornelia Canty Outen.

Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Renee are her fiancé, Adolph Scott; sister, Thomasina Orr; nieces, Keudra (Christopher) McKinley, Syrena (Blake) Lewis and Alayna Orr; her special cousin who was like a sister, Rosie Outen Mickle; and her children, Valerie (Thaddeus) Evans of Fredrick Mickle;  great-nephews and nieces, and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
