Obituary

Mrs. Pearl Roberta Brown Geiger was born October 13, 1934, in Columbia, South Carolina.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Albert and Amelia Marie Ruth Brown of Columbia.  After an extended illness Pearl joined the Lord on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.  She never complained and never lost sight of her faith in God. 

Pearl attended Howard Elementary School and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She also attended and graduated from the Baptist Hospital Nursing School Program. She was married to the late Simmie Geiger, Jr.

Pearl accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early in life at New Hope Baptist Church in Camp Furnace.  While at New Hope she served on the Usher’s Ministry with her husband.  She later moved to the Standish Acres Community and moved her membership to the Greater Saint Luke Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, under the leadership of the late Reverend Alfred Peters.  After the death of Reverend Peters, she started attending Refuge Temple Church in Columbia, South Carolina, under the leadership of the late Bishop William Lee Bonner and the current Pastor, Bishop Sylvester K. Reid.  During her nursing career, Pearl served as past president of the South Carolina Federation of License Practical Nurses Association. She was employed by the Baptist Hospital, Dorn V.A. Hospital, and the Department of Mental Health at the C. M. Tucker Center until retiring.

Pearl exemplified her love by being a dedicated and devoted nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  There were several children she adopted as her grandchildren through the years including: B. Austin Walker, Justin Washington, Marcus Pugh, Francheska Manning, and Keyosha Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Simmie Geiger, Jr.; daughter, Loretta Geiger Lyles; two sisters, Alma Brown Gadsden, and Vivian Fleming Jones; and one nephew, Alphonso Gadsden.

Pearl leaves to cherish her memory one loving and devoted daughter, Delores G. (William) Tucker, one son-in-law, Mr. Clyburn Lyles, Jr., both of Columbia, SC; three grandchildren, Clyburn Lyles III, Simmie Lyles, Amelia Tucker and Ava A. M. Tucker; sixteen great grandchildren, two special niece’s, Capris Yvette Young and Reverend Cassandra Burch both of Columbia, SC; special friend, Sister Carolyn Wolfe of Columbia, SC; two uncles, Emmanuel Corley of Greensboro, NC; and Gregory Daniels of Columbia, SC; nine sisters in love, Sandra Baker, Gwen Patterson, Rhondia Portee, Karen Daniels, Robin Daniels, Addie Jean Mitchell, Deloris McLeod, Helen Fleming and Janice Culcleasure, all of Columbia, SC; a host of nephews, nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends who will deeply miss her.
