A MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART

Dr. Eddie L Jones was born January 24, 1950 to the late Leroy Jones and Martha Richardson Jones in Columbia, S.C.  He was called from labor to reward on May 25, 2023 At 7:14 pm at Life Care Center with his wife and sons at his side.

 He received his foundational education from the public schools of Richland County. His formal educational experiences include a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Voice from Allen University; a Bachelor’s degree in Biblical Studies and a Master‘s Degree in Theology from Truth Bible College in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Jones also matriculated at George Washington University in Washington, DC, University of South Carolina, and Midlands Technical College. In June 2014, he earned a Doctorate Degree in Pastoral Ministries from Central Christian University of South Carolina, Inc

He was married to the former Sandra Gillins of Moncks Corner, S.C. on July 1, 1978. They were blessed with three (3) sons, Eddie 11, Mark, and Samuel.  They also have five (5) grandchildren whom he loved dearly and was affectionately called Papa: Damarreon, Jeremiah, Iyana, Isaiah, and Malan.

At an early age, Dr. Jones received Christ as his personal savior. Through the years, the calling on his life to the ministry became clearer. After accepting his calling, the late Pastor Cynthia DeBerry became his mentor. In April 2005, Dr. Jones began serving as Pastor of Abundant Life Outreach Ministries, Inc. in Cayce, SC. until his health declined.  With God’s guidance, he has been a faithful servant to the community and a true spiritual leader. He was truly dedicated to his church members and the community in helping them to follow God’s plan for living abundantly.

Dr. Jones has worked in a number of capacities in state government. He worked at the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR) for thirty (30) years. Initially, he served as an inspector/investigator of salons and schools. Later, he was appointed as the Program Coordinator/Administrator of the Barber, Cosmetology, and Massage Bodywork Therapy Boards for which he was the first African-American to hold these three (3) board positions. Dr. Jones was selected by the LLR Agency Director, in 2001, to attend the most prestigious program in state government called “EXCEL” Leadership Institute under Governor James Hodges’ administration.

He was affiliated with many civic organizations in the community. The affiliations included, but were not limited to, the Christian Businessman Coalition, Cayce Area Ministerial Coalition, Long Creek Plantation Homeowners Association, Ward One Families Association, Booker T. Washington Foundation, Allen University Alumni Association, Phi Beta Lambda Business Society, National Interstate Council of State Boards of Barber and Cosmetology, and the Notary Public Society.

Dr. Jones has a number of accomplishments including being inducted into the Cosmetology Hall of Fame in April 2009 and the State Palmetto Barbers’ Association as an honorary member in June 2013. He was also the recipient of a Resolution for his contributions to mankind from the House of Representatives

Dr Jones was blessed with a golden voice. He sang on his high school choir, college choir, the B Natural singers, the John Works Chorus and for many other occasions such as weddings, homegoings and the like. His melodious voice will always be remembered.

Dr. Jones was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, David Richardson and Bobby Jones, and his beloved son Samuel Aaron Jones.

Those left to cherish his memories are his loving wife, Sandra; his sons Eddie,11(Carol), Mark Antwan(Joy); his grandchildren; 3 sisters, Beverly(Jessie) Stroman, Geneva Canty, and Eva Jackson; mother in love: Rev Albertha Y Gillins of Moncks Corner, SC; sisters in love, Vera Gardenhire(Jerry) of Augusta Georgia, Linda Brown of Moncks Corner, SC, Debra Washington of Cayce, SC; brother in love, Samuel Gillins ,Jr. (Eleanor); a host of nieces , nephews, and cousins; 3 guardian daughters, Hope Hall, Meagan Taylor, and Shannon Davis; his loyal and loving church family and dear friends to many to name.
