Odell Bouknight, Jr. Obituary

Minister Odell Bouknight Jr. was born January 10, 1939, in Irmo, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Odell Bouknight Sr. and Maehalie V. Bouie Bouknight. He made the transition to his final resting place with the Lord on Monday, July 28, 2025.

Odell was educated in the public schools of Richland County. He was employed with Richland School District One at Rosewood Elementary school where he worked as Building Supervisor from which he retired after many years of dedicated service.

“Cook,” as he was called by family and friends, was a Master Tiler and was a member of the Army National Guard where he served as a Seargent. During his time with the Guard, he was awarded with the marksmanship badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the Humanitarian Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, as well as the Army Lapel Button and various ribbons of accommodations.

At the age of forty-two (42) Odell joined Victory Church where he received Christ as his Lord and Savior. Odell was a leader, a Deacon, and Sunday School teacher. In January 2014, he accepted the call and was ordained as a minister under the leadership of his Pastor, Dr. Charles I. Pollock. His favorite hymns were: “When the War is Over and “Look Where He Brought Me From.” Odell loved God with all his heart and shared the love of Jesus with all whom he encountered.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Wilhelmina Bouknight; three daughters, Christine Bracy, Shirley A. Bouknight, and Remona Willson; three brothers, Clyde, Albert, and Ralph Bouknight; and sisters, Louise Manigo, Elsie Calloway, Aldia “Tiny” Williams, Baby Gussie, and Gail Bouknight.

Those who are cherishing fond memories are his three loving sons, Alonzo (Shirley D.) Bouknight, Joey D. Bouknight, and Timothy Bouknight; brother, Carl (Sophia) Bouknight; ten grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss him, but rejoice that he is now resting with the Lord.
