Mr. Nathan Carlton Furgess, Sr. was born in Columbia, South Carolina on July 27, 1960, the youngest son of Albert Alpine, Sr., and Dorothy Richey Furgess. He departed to eternal rest on Friday, September 1, 2023, at the Dorn Veteran's Administration Hospital, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Nathan was educated in the public schools of Richland School District Two, and was a 1978 graduate of Spring Valley High School where he was a proud member and trumpeter for the Viking Marching Band. Nathan attended Midland Technical College, and proudly served in the United States Army Reserve, 175th Maintenance Unit for thirteen years. Upon receiving and Honorable Discharge, he was employed in Automobile Parts Sales for over fifteen years.
Nathan joined Second Nazareth Baptist Church at an early age. He had a passion for singing and was the lead singer of the band, “The Soul Dynamics”. He was one of the instrumental founders of the Spring Valley/Richland Northeast Old School Reunion. Nathan enjoyed singing, dancing, fishing, gardening, and playing the soundtrack to the movie “Purple Rain”.
Nathan was proceeded in death by his parents, Albert and Dorothy Furgess.
Mr. Nathan Carlton Furgess, Sr. is survived by three sons, Nathan (Taisha) Furgess, Jr.; Tyson (DeShae) Furgess, and Devon Furgess, all of Columbia, SC; sisters, Deborah (John) Scott of Columbia, SC, and Wanda (Reginald) Blanding of Elgin, SC; brothers, Albert (Sandra) Furgess Jr. and Reginald Furgess, both of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Omar Furgess, Kanye Furgess, Sanah Furgess, London Furgess and Bailee Furgess, all of Columbia, SC; a family friend Montez Gordon, nieces, nephews and a host of other loving relatives and caring friends.
