Ms. Gertrude Waites Elleby

Mrs. Gerturde Waites Elleby was born March 17, 1928, the beloved daughter of the late Lowna Waites Porterfield. She departed this life to join her heavenly father on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at The Heritage at Lowman Home in Chapin, South Carolina.

Gertrude was united in Holy Matrimony to Johnny Elleby, Sr. with whom she spent many devoted years. She was a loving mother and housewife who lovingly cared for her family. Her loving spirit drew people to her. She was a confidant to many who possessed a gift for listening with love, without judgement always proving sound advice to those who confided in her.

She was the sweetest mother who loved her children and her family dearly. She was the epitome of a Matriarch to our family, whom we cherished every day. We will miss her loving smile, her kind heart, and the love she shared with each of us.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Elleby was also preceded in death by her husband, John Elleby, Sr; sons, John Jr., and Ronald Elleby; daughter, Velicia Elleby-Green.

Those who are cherishing her fond and precious memories are her loving daughters, Yvonne Armstrong of Miramar, FL; Johnnie Mae Elleby and Laurena Elleby, both of Columbia, SC; loving daughter-in-law, Theresa Elleby of Columbia, SC; granddaughters, Octavia Elleby, Ukebia Elleby, both of Columbia, SC; grandson, Robert Armstrong of LauderHill, FL; niece, Paulette Smith of Greenwood, SC; a special love for her daughters, Glenda Armstrong and Eschatia Armstrong, both of Miramar, FL; Wanda Armstrong of Council Bluffs, IA; (They all knew her as “Momma”!); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-greatgrandchildren and other loving relative and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
