Mrs. Mattie Lenora Hart Middleton, 77, of Columbia, South Carolina, was born on November 1, 1947, in Columbia, South Carolina the beloved daughter of the late John Henry Hart, Sr. and Bessie Mae Sims Hart. She found eternal life, love and peace in the arms of the Lord on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina.
Mattie attended Booker T. Washington High School, Midlands Technical College, and later achieved various certifications for nursing assistance while working at the Crafts-Farrow State and G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospitals. She enjoyed her work at the hospitals, helping and taking care of others, but she was never prouder than when she joined her late husband, Mr. Paul Middleton, serving as administrator for their painting business - Middleton's Painting and Special Coatings. This was not an easy venture, but with the love and commitment of them as a couple, it was a great success that also provided employment for family members from both sides of their families.
In addition to raising her family and working in her husband's business, Mrs. Middleton also served actively and held position in The Order of the Eastern Star Omar Temple 119 and various other charitable organizations. Mattie, affectionately known as "Mattie Frog," as she was lovingly referred to by her late oldest sister, Doris, was a strong and loving woman who was always there for her family. Like it or not, if you asked for her advice, it was provided --very direct and straight to the point. She loved her family very much and was not going to let them fail on her watch.
