Mother Johnnie Mae Harris Obituary

Johnnie Mae Harris, affectionately known as “Mother Harris,” was born on September 16, 1942, in Kingstree, South Carolina, to the late Joe Tisdale Sr. and Viola McCrea Tisdale. She peacefully transitioned from this life on October 12, 2025, at her home in Columbia, South Carolina, surrounded by love.

Mother Harris was a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering faith. She was known for her warm heart, gentle spirit, and steadfast devotion to her family and community. A natural nurturer, she served as a mother not only to her own children but also to many others who found love, wisdom, and comfort in her presence.  Her kitchen was her ministry—where love was the main ingredient and food was her language of care. She delighted in cooking and feeding others, turning every meal into a moment of fellowship. Whether hosting Sunday dinners, preparing a favorite dish, or welcoming someone in need, she gave from her heart and created a space where everyone felt seen, valued, and loved.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Jerome Tisdale and Francis Harris, and two grandchildren, Khalil Harris and Chelcee Wilson.

She leaves to cherish her memory two devoted daughters, Pamela (Kevin) Gantt and Marsha Cunningham; three brothers, Joe Louis Tisdale, Samuel (Mae) Tisdale, and Solomon (Alice) Tisdale; one sister, Margret Shaw; two daughters of love, Patricia Rogers and Linda Waters; five beloved grandchildren, Angel Brevard, Andre Wilson, Trey Harris, Avery Lovette, and Malik Williams; and five cherished grandchildren of love, Lance Waters, Denee Waters, Deah Waters, Destiny Johnson, and Megan Johnson. She is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends who will forever carry her love and legacy in their hearts.

Though her earthly journey has ended, her spirit will continue to shine through every life she touched. Her faith, kindness, and generosity will remain a lasting example of love in action and a testament to a life well lived.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter into the joy of your Lord.” — Matthew 25:23
