Mother Janie Grant Portee Obituary

Mother Janie Lee Grant Portee was born June 16, 1930, in Congaree, South Carolina, the beloved daughter and the tenth of sixteen children raised in the home of Samuel and Marie Hall Grant. She was called to eternal rest to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2025, in Blythewood, South Carolina.

Janie Lee was educated in Richland County Public Schools where she graduated from Webber High School. She was united in marriage to the late Leroy Portee Sr.

Mother Portee was a faithful and dedicated member of Progressive Word and Praise Church of Hopkins. During her tenure she was the Most Senior Mother of the church. She enjoyed spending time with her family and laughter. She lived her life as a woman of God. She would go out of her way to help anyone in need at any time day or night.

Though she is no longer physically with us her loving, kind, playful spirit and straight to the point attitude will live in the hearts and lives of all who loved and knew her. Her contagious smile, laughter, and quick wit answers would make you remember your encounter with her. Then she would encourage you and tell you to always pray, be happy, put God first and would tell children to love one another.

Mother Portee was also preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Portee, Sr.,  son, Leroy Portee Jr.; son in-law, Edward Andrews; grandson, Isreal Andrews; siblings, Eugene Jacobs, Ouraleaner Adams, Anna Adams, Rev.
