Miss Queenie Mitchell Obituary

Miss Queenie Mitchell, was born November 19, 1940, in Columbia, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Pick Mitchell, Sr. and Gus Ella Odom Mitchell. She departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, September 12, 2025.

Queenie was educated in the public schools of Richland County where she graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. After graduation, Queenie pursued a career in Nursing.  She worked at Saint Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas for several years as an LPN.  Queenie later joined the United States Army where she served faithfully for six years as an LPN/Staff Sergent until she was medically retired.   During her time in the Army, she was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Queenie returned to Columbia to be the primary caregiver to her mother, while working as an LPN at a Nursing Home.  Queenie continued her education at Midlands Technical College, and American Technical College where she graduated with a BA Degree in Science and a master’s degree in counseling.

Miss Queenie loved Church and GOD'S word. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church where she attended faithfully and regularly until her health declined. She loved to dress and to be around people.

Queenie was a caring and giving person who would give a helping hand to anyone in need. During her spare time she enjoyed listening to Gospel Music and BBN radio station. Queenie never met a stranger, and she will be remembered for always telling jokes that made others smile.

In addition to her parents, she also preceded in death by her brother, Moses Odom; and niece, DeCole Holmes.

Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Miss Queenie are her brother, Pick (Sara) Mitchell, Jr.; sisters, Ruth Holmes and Deborah Mitchell; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom will dearly miss her.
