Mildred Brown Obituary

Mildred Cornelius Robertson Jones Brown, affectionately known as “Sister” departed this life on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at PRISMA Health Richland hospital.  She was born on December 18, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Oren and Mildred Martin Robertson

After living in Cincinnati a few years, her parents decided to move back to McCormick, SC. Mildred grew up in a loving and religious environment.  She gave her life to God at an early age.  She joined the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Parksville, SC.  She attended faithfully and was always in Sunday school.  Mildred worked diligently in the church and served on the choir and usher board.

Mildred attended the McCormick County Public Schools (formerly Mims Elementary and Mims High school).  She graduated from Mims High school in 1963.  She worked at Riegel Textile for a short time.  Mildred wanted to better her horizon so she decided to enroll at Palmer College in Columbia, SC where she majored in Business Administration.  She worked over thirty (30) years and retired from the South Carolina Tax Commision as a clerical clerk. Mildred wasn’t one to sit around and do nothing, so she entered into the workforce again and worked in the deli at Kroger.  Working in the deli was a job that she enjoyed and loved doing.

Mildred later married Johnny Jones.  They were blessed with a beautiful little boy, Derek, whom she loved and missed so dearly.  They both preceded her in death.  Mildred never lost her faith in God.  She trusted and believed in God and he gave her the strength to make it through the trying times.

In 1992, Mildred met Willie Edward Brown.  He became the light of her life.  After an eight-month courtship, they united in holy matrimony on July 10, 1993.  They shared 27 years of love, happiness and devotion.

Mildred loved the Lord and always stayed connected to worshipping with Christian believers.  She joined First Nazareth Baptist Church and faithfully served on the church choir for many years until she became ill and her health declined.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Willie Edward Brown; one sister, Frances (Bernard) Morris; one brother, Oren (Sarah) Robertson one sister-in-law, Mable R. (Sam) three brothers-in-law, Johnny Brown, George Brown and Nathaniel (Chyna) Brown of Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends who will miss Mildred dearly.
