Michael Lavonne Smoot

Michael Smoot was born on March 02, 1957, to the late Mack Smoot, Jr. and Iva Lee Truss in Anniston, Alabama. He departed this earthy life on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, in Columbia, SC. 

Michael was a long-term resident of Columbia, SC. He received his GED and went on to join the United States Army in 1974. In 1978, Michael received a medical Honorable Discharge from the military. 

He is known for his contagious laugh and vibrant personality.  He was dedicated to his family, especially his close bond with his granddaughter, Zuri. 

In addition to his parents, Michael (Mike) was preceded in death by his sisters, Tonya Smoot, and Michelle Smoot. 

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted stepmother, Elizabeth Smoot; an ex-wife, Barbra A. James, mother of Celia D. Smoot; and Doris Mack, mother of Whitney and Gloria Ashford; three daughters, Celia D. Smoot (Brad Rader), Whitney Ashford, and Gloria Ashford; his siblings, Stephanie (Timothy) Pace, Mitchell Smoot, Marc (Rebecca) Smoot, Mack Smoot III, Ivan (Deborah) Smoot, Quantril (Liz) Smoot, Richard Smoot, and Lisa (Neka) Smoot; his grandchildren, Zuri Smoot and Zoey Rivers; he also has twenty-three nephews and nieces; and a host of other loving relatives and friends who adored and will miss him deeply.
