Michael Marshall

Michael Marshall was born November 29, 1948, in Walterboro, South Carolina, the beloved son of the late Rudolph and Irabelle Miller Marshall.  He peacefully departed this earthly life on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina. 

“Big Mike” as he was affectionately called, was blessed with a life rich in love, faith, family, and unforgettable experiences. He received his education in the public schools of Jacksonville, Florida,  where he graduated from Matthew W. Gilbert High School.

In 1966, Michael answered the call of adventure by beginning his career as a Merchant Seaman, proudly serving aboard three maritime vessels that traveled both domestic and international waters.

"Big Mike," possessed a larger-than-life personality and a heart to match. His warm smile, gentle spirit, and welcoming nature made everyone feel like family. Whether sharing laughter, offering words of wisdom, or simply enjoying the company of loved ones, Michael had a remarkable gift for bringing joy wherever he went. He was deeply loved, widely respected, and will forever be remembered as a man of kindness, humility, strength, and quiet dignity.

Rooted in a strong Christian foundation, Michael accepted Christ at an early age and faithfully united with Evergreen Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida. His faith remained a guiding light throughout his life's journey.

In 2007, Michael relocated from Jacksonville, Florida, to Columbia, South Carolina, where he was lovingly welcomed into the home of his beloved mother and devoted sister.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his devoted sister, Jannette Moorer, whose unwavering love and extraordinary care became one of life's greatest blessings. With a servant's heart, she faithfully stood by her brother through every season, offering comfort, encouragement, and compassionate care with grace and selfless devotion.

He also leaves to celebrate his life two loving daughters,  Antionette Holmes and Latonya Nelson, both of Jacksonville, FL; one devoted son, Jeremiah Levy (Grace) of Jacksonville, FL; thirteen beloved grandchildren, and a host of cherished cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

As we bid farewell to our beloved Michael, we find comfort in knowing that his earthly journey has ended and his heavenly voyage has begun. The seas he once sailed have now given way to peaceful shores where there is no more pain, no more suffering, and no more parting. His legacy of love, faith, perseverance, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.

Though we will miss his comforting presence and radiant smile, we rejoice in God's promise that those who trust in Him shall live again. Until we meet him on that glorious shore, we will forever cherish the memories, celebrate his life,  and thank God for the blessing of Michael "Big Mike" Marshall.
