Merv Eugene McCrimmon was born December 25, 1961 to the late Lebert Griffin McCrimmon and Hurley McCrimmon in Pompano Beach, FL. The third of four children, Merv attended Blanch Ely High School (1979), where he was in the marching band and a member of the track and field team. As a young adult, Merv moved to Columbia, SC, and enrolled in Southern Technical College, and obtained a Certified Nursing Certificate (CNA-1989). He later enrolled in Benedict College and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Child and Family Development (2001). In 2020 Merv also obtained his certification as a Human Services-Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP).
Merv was always the life of the party and welcomed everyone with open arms. He was a “true people person. Merv was full of joy. He enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and dressing to impress. In 1994, Merv started his professional career with Richland County School District One in Columbia, SC. He gave 27 years of dedicated service to Richland One students and families. Merv began his time in the district as an instructional assistant (parent liaison) at South Kilbourne Elementary School. He later served as a parent educator in the Office of Developmental Programs, and at Bradley Elementary School. In 2017, he later joined the Office of Federal and State Programs, where he ended his career primarily serving schools in the Lower Richland area.
Merv first gave his life to the Lord as a young man at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, FL. He later recommitted himself to the Lord and joined St. James AME Church in Columbia, SC where he was the leader of the men’s ministry – The Sons of Allen.
Preceding Merv in death is Lebert McCrimmon (mother), Karen Gaines (sister), and Bernard McCrimmon (brother). Merv leaves to cherish beautiful memories with his family: A loving sister, Cynthia “Renee” Holmes (Willie); Nephews & Nieces – Johnnie Jamaal Gaines (Sameerah), Japrince Gaines (Kenya), and Juaquanda Ross (Charles), all of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Barry Hayden and Cynkeithia Griffin of Atlanta, GA; Great nieces and nephews – Johnny “Jay” Gaines, Jr., Londen Gaines, Josiah Ross, Darren Ross, Charles Ross, Jr., Kyran Hayden, Kobe Hayden, Khamya Kines, Blossom Gaines, Japrince Gaines, Jr., and Jeremiah Gaines; a Special Aunt, Joan Adams and a host of relatives and friends.
