Melonea Coney Gill was born on August 5, 1940, in Dublin, Georgia (Laurens County), the only child of the late Annie Coney. She departed from this world and entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on Friday, January 30, 2026.
Melonea was united in holy matrimony to the late William Gill. Though she had no biological children of her own, she was called “Mamma G,” by all those who loved and knew her. She was blessed with a family that loved her dearly and she cherished her aunt Elizabeth deeply and held her friends close like family.
She was active member of Cleaves Memorial CME Church until her health began to decline; and was well known in her community and her church family where she found joy and belonging in her church home. It is there that she lifted her voice in song as her gift to God and to all who listened. Melonea lived her life with integrity, courage, and a heart full of love.
A melody of faith, gratitude, and hope. Melonea spoke her mind with confidence and made you laugh with her sharp humor. She carried herself with a strength that inspired everyone around her. Though she is no longer physically with us she has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew her.
Those who are cherishing fond and precious memories of Melonea are her loving aunt, Elizabeth Lofton; a host of friends and the residents of Forest Acre Post Acute, and all of the staff that worked lovingly and diligently to make her time there feel like home. She loved each of them dearly and she was grateful for every kindness shown to her, and she never hesitated to say "thank you" from the heart. Melonea, “Mamma G “, you will be missed by all with whom you shared life experiences.
