Martha Ann Branch

August 14, 1938 ~ May 4, 2022 (age 83)

Deaconess Martha Ann Martin Branch, was born August 14, 1938, in Blaney (Kershaw County), South Carolina.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Leon and Pearl J. Martin.  She departed this life, and gained her heavenly wings on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Martha was raised in the Tookie Doo Area in Kershaw County along with her 13 siblings.  She was educated in the public schools of Fairfield County and was a graduate of Bethel High School.  During her Senior year, she held the title of Homecoming Queen.  She was very proud of that moment in her life, and she often share that wonderful experience with her children and grandchildren. She continued her education at Columbia School of Cosmetology and worked for many years as a cosmetologist.

She met the love of her life, the late Roosevelt Branch, Sr. and was united in Holy Matrimony on September 28, 1957.  Their union of love was blessed with more than 60 years of love and devotion to each other and the births of six children.

After raising her children, Martha went on to work at Olympia Mills.  Later in her life, her love for cooking led her to the Food Service Industry, where she used her talents as Head Cook at Crane Creek Elementary School, St. Andrews Middle School, Columbia High School and Johnson Food Services at Fort Jackson.  She was then recruited by the Food Service Department at Baptist Hospital from which she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Deaconess Branch was a dedicated and longtime member of Gill Creek Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess along with her husband.  During her tenure at Gill Creek, she also served as a dedicated member of the Jubilee Choir until her health declined.

Deaconess Branch was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She was also preceded in death by two sons, Roosevelt Jr., and Reginald Branch; and eleven of her siblings.

Those who will forever cherish her fond and precious memories are her two loving sons, Ronald Branch and Roderick Branch, both of Columbia, SC; her two loving and caring daughters, Angela Branch Mack of Columbia, SC; and Brenda (Frank) Branch Kelly of Wedgefield, SC; six (6) loving grandchildren;  eight (8) great-grandchildren; her caring and devoted sister, Catherine Martin Miller of Columbia, SC; one brother-in-law, Jessie James Branch of Fairfield, CA; four caring sisters-in-law, Betty Martin Branch of Elgin, SC; Geraldine Branch, Clare Branch, Annetha Martin, all of Columbia, SC; and Norma Branch of Chicago, IL; a host of nephews, nieces and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by her departure, but rejoice that she is resting with the Lord.
