Martha P. Addison Belton Obituary

Martha Polly Addison Belton was born June 24, 1951, in Blythewood, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late James and Annie Bell Addison. She entered eternal rest on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Columbia, South Carolina.`

Martha attended the public schools of Richland County. She was married to the late Ellis Belton for 50 years before his passing. She retired from the former Richland Memorial Hospital, now Prisma Heath Richland after 27 years of service.

Martha loved the Lord. She had a heart of gold - if she had it to give, it was yours. She loved cooking, feeding others, family functions, decorating and shopping for extravagant clothing. She adored her grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She also played a central role in raising several of her nieces and nephews, teaching them kindness, responsibility and resilience by example.

Though she is no longer physically with us, she has left a legacy of love to all those who loved and knew her.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Ellis Jefferson Belton; granddaughter, Jayla Belton, great granddaughter, Skylar Marie Parks; four brothers; seven sisters; four brothers in law;  and one sister-in-law.

She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Judy Belton of the home, six grandchildren, Jasmine Belton Shaw of Louisiana, Justice Belton Shaw and Derrick Belton Shaw both of Killeen, Texas, Ja'yla Belton, Tellisa Belton and Tierra Robinson, all of Columbia, South Carolina; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Jerry Addison; one sister, Gladys Addison, both of Columbia, South Carolina; brothers and sisters in law, Mildred Belton, Samson Belton, Pearl Kelly, Truman Belton, Maggie Lee Lawhorn, Sheila Cannon, Larry Belton, Fannie Mae McCants, Aaron Belton, Ruben Belton, Mary Belton and Levi Belton, Jr; special nephew, Vernon "Boss" Addison, Sr.; special friends, Loretta and Thomas Keith and Tyrone Green; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom will truly miss her.
