Martha L. Jackson, affectionately referred to as “Miss Martha,” was born on May 30, 1941, South Carolina, the beloved daughter of the late Mary Jane Clayton. She departed this life for eternal life with the Lord on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at her residence in Columbia, South Carolina, surrounded by the love of her grandson.
Martha completed her education in the public schools of South Carolina. She began her professional career Richland Memorial Hospital (PRISMA Health Richland) where she worked for many years. Martha excelled while at Richland Memorial and was honored with the prestigious Employee of the Month honor which is currently displayed on the hospital’s wall of fame and will be displayed indefinitely. Upon her retirement, she transitioned into the role of a foster grandmother at Lonnie B. Nelson Elementary School, dedicating not only her heart, but many years to this honored position where she shared her love with many elementary students.
Martha was a firm believer in God and participated actively in her Church. She was a dedicated member of Bethlehem Baptist Church for over four decades, where she dedicated herself to the Senior musical choir and the missionary ministry, in addition to several other church ministries, offering her help wherever possible. She was currently a member of New Free Hope Independent Church where she attended until her health declined.
Martha was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Though she is no longer physically with us, she has left a legacy of love and devoted to all those who loved and knew her.
In addition to her mother, Martha was also preceded in death by her husband; Hampton Thomas Jackson; and her son, Thomas Hampton Jackson; and daughter, Yvette Gibbs.
Martha leaves to cherish fond and precious memories to her loving daughter, Yvette Gibbs; loving grandson, Thomas Jackson; along with four beautiful great-grandchildren, Emoni Jackson, Chardonnay Jackson, Treasure Jackson, and Hampton Jackson; a host of nephews and nieces, and other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom cherished and cared for her deeply.
