Marilyn F. Johnson-Jeffcoat

November 9, 1954 ~ June 7, 2022 (age 67)


Marilyn Faye Johnson-Jeffcoat, was born November 9, 1954, in West Columbia, South Carolina. She was the beloved daughter of Corine Hopkins Johnson and the late Nathaniel Johnson. She was called to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

Marilyn was educated in the public schools of Lexington County. She attended Twin City and Batesburg-Leesville High School, where she was a member of the cheering squad. She continued her education at the University of South Carolina, where she graduated in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. While at USC, she was a proud member of the University of South Carolina marching band; and Tau Beta Sigma Sorority, the National Honorary Band Sorority. After graduation, she was employed with the Lexington County Tax Commission. She later began her career at the Human Affairs Commission in Columbia, South Carolina, from which she retired after many years of dedicated service.

Marilyn loved music and she used her gift to faithfully serve God and her community. She was a musician and minister of music for more than 40 years in Columbia and the surrounding area. She was currently serving at Mt. Pleasant CME Church. Some of the churches she has served include, Heyward AME Church, Corner Stone Baptist Church, and Mt. Zion AME Church, just to name a few. She will be remembered for the music workshops, recitals, and concerts that she brought the music community in Columbia and the state of South Carolina.

Marilyn enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She enjoyed football and basketball and she was an avid supporter of the USC Women’s Basketball Team. Though she is no longer physically with us, her loving spirit, her love of music, her family and others will forever live in our hearts.

Ms. Jeffcoat was also preceded in death by her brother, Calvin (Joan) Johnson.

Those who will forever cherish Marilyn’s fond and precious memories are her two loving and devoted daughters,  Brandolyn Rowe Scott of Irmo, SC; and  Alesia Johnson of Lexington, SC; her precious granddaughters, Brianna Scott and Cheyenne Scott , both of Irmo, SC; and Jaeda Taylor and Reina Santana, both of Lexington, SC; her loving and caring mother, Corine H. Johnson of Batesburg, SC; her caring brothers, Robert (Sandra) Johnson of Batesburg, SC; Alvin Johnson of Columbia, SC; and James (Valerie) Johnson of Norristown, PA; and her loving sisters, Elizabeth Johnson of Columbia, SC;  Costena (William) Kelly of Edmund, SC; and Patricia Johnson of Batesburg, SC; her nephews, Robert Wilkins of Columbia, SC; Gregory Wilkins of Lexington, SC; Calvin Johnson, Jr. of Batesburg, SC; Steven Johnson of Columbia, SC; Darryl Wilkins of Atlanta, GA; Michael Johnson of Columbia, SC; Maurice (Elaine) Johnson of Gaston, SC; Alvin (Markita) Johnson of Charleston, SC; William (Camille) Kelly, Jr. of San Diego, CA; Stevenson Adams, Jr. of Leesville, SC; and James Johnson, Jr. of Norristown, PA; her nieces, Cassandra (Kenneth) Martin of Irmo, SC; Kawana (Kelvin) Nelson, Lachele Johnson, both of Batesburg, SC; Kenya Johnson of Norristown, PA; and Patsy (Cisco) Gortman of Elgin, SC; her loving aunt, Violetta Johnson of Suitland, MD; her special friends, Robin Jackson, Queen Linen, and Shu Yun Dreher; a host of great nephews and nieces; cousins, and her special fur grand-babies Gucci, Clover, Cosmo, and Kano; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends, all of whom are saddened by her untimely departure, but rejoice that she is with the Lord.
